The transport rules
Worked out once, the same for every town
The unit, the team and the hire price are identical wherever you are. The only line that changes with your address is transport, and it follows four rules.
- Within 30 road miles of Luton
- Delivery and collection transport are included in the price.
- Beyond 30 miles
- £2 + VAT for every extra mile, each way: once for delivery, once for collection. Each town page shows the estimate for that town.
- Central London
- The Congestion Charge (£15 per visit) is added only where your full postcode is inside the zone. There is no ULEZ charge: our van is ULEZ compliant.
- River crossings
- Where the route uses a tolled crossing, the van's two-way toll is added; the Dartford Crossing is £7.

Why delivered storage
What people searching for storage near them actually want
Not a warehouse with a corridor of roller doors. Space, close by, that they can open when they like.
Close to home or work
We deliver the unit to your property or site, so your storage is where you need it rather than at a fixed off-site location.
Access without the drive
Instead of loading up, driving to a facility and unloading again, everything stays a few steps away and you use it in your own time.
Flexible, temporary space
Renovations, house moves, business projects, insurance claims and space pressures that will pass. Four weeks minimum, then as long as you need.
Secure and lockable
Steel units built for the weather, with two deadlocks on the door, delivered and assembled by our team. No heavy lifting or logistics for you to arrange.
Homes
Renovations and decorating, moving house or temporary overflow, decluttering and creating extra space.
Businesses and sites
Stock, equipment and supplies, trade tools and materials kept on site, and temporary storage during works or insurance repairs.
Compare the options on our mobile storage and self storage pages, or work out the size you need.
How it works
Delivered, assembled, collected
The same three steps in every town, from Markyate at 2.3 miles to Peterborough at 72.1.
Delivered by van
The panels arrive flat-packed on our Luton van, so tight streets, side passages and back gardens are not a problem.
- No cranes, no HGVs, no HIABs
- Minimum 2,150 mm height clearance on the route in
- Weekday installations, Saturdays by appointment
Assembled by hand, on site
Our team builds the unit in the agreed spot on a firm, reasonably level surface. No permanent fixings, and planning permission is not usually needed.
- Driveways, patios, gardens, yards and sites
- Two built-in deadlocks on the door
- Once loaded, the unit stays where it was built
Used, then collected
Keep it for four weeks or a lot longer. When you have finished and the unit is empty, we come back, dismantle it and take it away.
- Give us 7 working days' notice to off-hire
- Extend at any time, no fixed end date
- Nothing left behind on your property
We deliver and assemble the unit. We do not transport or handle your belongings, so you load it at your own pace and keep the keys.

Questions about where we deliver
What areas does Door To Store cover?
We are based in Slip End, Luton, and cover a wide area around it. The 119 towns listed on this page sit in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Greater London, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Kent, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire, and each has its own page with the distance and transport line worked out. If your town is not listed, get in touch and we will confirm whether we can deliver to you.
What does the 30-mile band mean?
Delivery and collection transport are included in the price for any address within 30 road miles of our depot. Beyond that we add £2 + VAT for every extra mile, each way, so a town 40 miles out adds about £20 + VAT for delivery and the same again for collection. The quote works it out from your full postcode.
Do you charge the Congestion Charge or ULEZ in London?
The Congestion Charge is added at £15 per visit only where the full postcode is inside the central zone. There is no ULEZ charge: our van is ULEZ compliant, so nothing is added for driving inside the zone.
How does Door To Store work?
We deliver a flat-packed steel storage unit to your property or site on a van and assemble it by hand in the agreed spot. It stays there for as long as you need it. When it is empty, we come back, dismantle it and take it away.
Where can a storage unit be placed?
Driveways, patios, rear gardens, commercial yards, managed sites and other suitable on-site locations. A firm, semi-level surface is preferred, and the route in needs at least 2,150 mm of height clearance. Uneven ground may still be possible if agreed before installation.
Do the units need planning permission?
In most cases, no. The units are temporary, not fixed down and removed when no longer needed. If the unit is staying in place long term, or the property is listed or in a conservation area, check with the local planning authority first.
How much does storage unit hire cost?
Hire is charged weekly and billed every four weeks, from £35 + VAT per week for the 2 × 2 m unit, with a minimum hire of 4 weeks. Delivery, assembly, collection and dismantling are charged separately by size, and are half price on a six-month hire and free on twelve months.
