Privacy and cookie policy
Version 2.0, September 2026 (replaces the cookie policy dated 25 July 2024)
This policy explains what personal data Door To Store collects when you use this website, request a quote, book a storage unit or contact us, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have under UK data protection law. It also explains the cookies and similar technologies the site uses and how to change your choices.
1. Who we are
Door To Store is the trading name of Doortostore LTD. Head office: 90 Front Street, Slip End, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU1 4BS. Telephone 0800 043 9302. For anything to do with your personal data, email office@doortostore.co.uk or write to the address above marked "Data protection".
Doortostore LTD is registered in England and Wales, company number 11724732, and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller, registration reference ZB171238. Doortostore LTD is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
2. What we collect and why
We collect personal data in the following situations.
- Requesting a quote. Your name, email address, telephone number, the postcode of the delivery address, the size and hire length you have chosen, the delivery date you would like, roughly how long you expect to keep the unit and, if you give it, a company name. We use this to price the job (including the road distance from our depot to your postcode), to send you the written quote and to follow it up. Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in following up quotes we have prepared.
- Booking and paying. When you book, your billing and delivery address, contact details and the details of your hire. Card payments are taken by Stripe and Direct Debits by GoCardless; we never see or store your full card number or bank details. Lawful basis: performance of a contract, and our legal obligation to keep accounting records.
- Contacting us. Your name, email address, telephone number and whatever you put in your message, so that we can reply. Lawful basis: legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
- Providing the service. Delivery and collection dates, access notes for your property and correspondence about your hire. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- Marketing. If you tick the box on the quote form, or otherwise ask for them, we send occasional Door To Store updates and offers by email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email or by contacting us. Lawful basis: consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We do not sell or pass your details to third parties for their own marketing.
- Browsing the site. With your permission, analytics and advertising cookies collect information about how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, how you arrived). See section 6. Lawful basis: consent.
3. Who we share your data with
We use the following service providers, who process personal data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
- Our website host and Cloudflare (serving the site and protecting it from attack).
- WordPress with Gravity Forms and WooCommerce (quotes, bookings and orders).
- Stripe (card payments), GoCardless (Direct Debit) and PayPal where offered.
- QuickBooks (invoicing and accounts) and HireHop (managing hire jobs, deliveries and collections).
- HubSpot (our customer relationship management system, which also records enquiries made through the website).
- Google (Analytics, Ads and Maps: Maps is used to work out the road distance to your postcode for the quote).
- Our email provider and, for out-of-hours support, our live chat and telephone answering providers.
We will also share personal data where the law requires it, for example with HMRC, or with our professional advisers. Some of these providers store data outside the UK; where they do, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses or a UK adequacy decision.
4. How long we keep it
- Quotes that do not go ahead: kept for up to 2 years so that we can honour the quote, answer follow-up questions and understand demand, then deleted.
- Bookings and hires: for the length of the hire and then for 6 years after the final invoice, which is the period HMRC requires us to keep accounting records.
- Enquiries by email or through the contact form: up to 2 years after our last exchange.
- Marketing consent: until you unsubscribe or 3 years after your last interaction with us, whichever is sooner.
- Analytics data: for the lifetime of the cookies described in section 6.
5. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it deleted where we no longer need it, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis we rely on. To exercise any of these rights, email office@doortostore.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Scripts and web beacons are small pieces of code and images that do a similar job. This site uses:
- Essential cookies, which make the site work: remembering your cookie choice, keeping your basket and checkout session together, and protecting forms from abuse. These do not need consent.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager), which tell us how the site is used so that we can improve it. Only set if you choose "Accept all".
- Advertising cookies (Google Ads, loaded through Google Tag Manager), which measure whether our advertising brought you here and may be used to show you relevant adverts. Only set if you choose "Accept all".
- HubSpot cookies, which link your visit to your enquiry in our customer system so that we can follow up sensibly. Only set if you choose "Accept all".
- Payment cookies set by Stripe, GoCardless or PayPal on the checkout pages, which are needed to take payment securely.
The cookie banner appears the first time you visit. Choosing "Essential only" keeps analytics, advertising and HubSpot cookies off. You can change your mind at any time: open the cookie settings, or clear cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site, such as checkout, from working.
